Back pain is one of the most common complaints among men and women. It is estimated that approximately 60-75% of the adult population suffers from one or the other kind of back pain. At one time, it was believed that back pain only afflicted people over 40-45 years of age. These days, but, even children and young adults complain of acute back pain.

Since it is a common ailment, many people ignore their back pain and carry on with normal activities, in spite of the pain. A excellent percentage of sufferers visit doctors for their back pain only when they are completely incapacitated by the pain. Others prefer to pop painkilling medications from time to time. So, how do you know whether you need to see a doctor for your back pain?

If you have a persistent, low impact back pain, you may be better off taking care of it yourself. The trick is to know what activities are causing the pain and avoid doing such activities. For instance, many pregnant women develop back pain when they stand continuously. The solution is to avoid standing for long periods of time so you can avoid hurt to your back.

In a excellent majority of people suffering from back pain, the roots of the problem lie in mechanical problems that are somewhat hard to pinpoint. For instance, the muscles in the back may go into a spasm when you lift heavy objects, bend over or sit in an uncomfortable position. Long term abuse of the back in this way leads to weakening of the muscles or hurt of the nerves in the back. Patients often reach a point where the pain starts to interfere with normal activities. A excellent percentage of people suffering from mechanical lower back pain problems get over their pain without any special therapy.

In some cases, the causes of back pain are more complicated. Back pain could be the result of infections, tumors or vascular diseases, among other things. The pain caused by such problems may be different:

Pain that radiates down the leg

Pain in the thigh

Constant pain

Pain in the chest, groin or rectal areas

Pain that shoots up at night

Bowel and bladder control problems

Back pain accompanied by fever and weight loss

Pain following injury

Problems in maintaining posture and balance while walking

In such cases, patients must visit a doctor for their back pain immediately.

It is a regular practice for most families to meet their family doctor for back pain relief. But, studies show that family doctors may be inclined to stick with traditional back pain therapies and may not easily adapt to modern therapy practices.

In case of chronic back pain, surgery may be the only route to back pain relief. Orthopedists, rheumatologists, neurologists or neurosurgeons may be called in to treat back pain depending on the kind of problem that is causing the pain.

Back Pain Information That You Must Know

The second most common neurological problem in the United States is back pain. The most common is headache.

The nice part about lower back pain is that it will usually disappear in a few days. After you have a minor fall or some other injury that can cause you to have a muscle pull or a ligament strain, it is very common to have some lower back pain.

The use of anti inflammatory medicines such as ibuprofin can be used along with ice and rest to help ease the pain over the next 5 to 7 days. Back pain is common in middle school and high school teenagers as well as adults. Treatment for pain is usually the same despite the age differences.

Many ligaments, bones, neurological components make up the structure of our backs. Due to these complex structures, back pain can be hard to diagnose. The onset of muscle fatigue associated with back pain can come at any time, causing debilitating conditions.

All countries have back pain problems and there is much knowledge about the subject. Even with the medical advances we have on the subject we do not know the many causes of back pain. In fact a lot of times back pain is caused by other body parts not functioning as they should. Fatigue in the muscles or low back pain are not a diagnosis but just a symptom. More than 80% of all Americans suffer from some type of back pain at some time in their lives. Back pain is one of the leading causes of disability for younger people under 45 years ancient.

There are 3 categories of back pain, that are based on the duration of the symptoms. They are:

Acute back pain – this is a pain that will last anywhere from present to 6 weeks or less. Subacute back pain – is defined as pain for 6 to 12 weeks in duration. Chronic back pain – last longer than 12 weeks.

Back pain is caused by these common reasons:

Impingement on the nerve commonly called a pinched nerve Herniated discs commonly referred to as a slipped disc or ruptured disc Muscular problems Spinal degeneration The well known sciatic back pain Osteoarthritis

MRI scans are particularly useful to assess certain conditions by providing detail of the disc (such as for degenerative disc disease, isthmic spondylolisthesis) and nerve roots (such as for herniated discs, spinal stenosis). MRI scans are also useful to rule out tumors or spinal infections. MRI scans are painless and don’t require needles or dye. The MRI scan has become the most common test to look at the lumbar spine after X-rays have been taken. MRI is the preferred imaging modality in this situation.

When you are having spasms of the back, medication such as muscle relaxants are sometimes prescribed for relief and treatment. This type of medication should not be taken for a long duration and it does have a tendency to cloud the mind. The benefits are controversial and they have some serious side effects, such as sedation and potential dependency on the drug.

You can relax the back spasm by treating the muscles with a tens unit, gentle stretching, heat, massage and other types of back pain therapy. These types of treatment are excellent at helping relax the muscles causing the back pain. Pulled muscles are sometimes the cause of muscle imbalances and chronic back pain. For the length of this imbalance, so the pain can continue.

Essential Information Everyone Must Know About Back and Neck Pain Treatment

Are you looking for quick relief from your chronic neck and back pain?  Wouldn’t be nice to eliminate pain forever and live pain free?
You’re not alone.   Back pain and neck pain is a growing epidemic and millions of people throughout the world are also suffering.
Most people turn to their doctors to find relief and to obtain varying remedies for pain, but did you know there are dangers related to common treatments that your doctor likely isn’t telling you?  That’s right.   Your quest to eliminate your terrible back and neck pain could be causing you more harm than excellent.
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDS, are one common remedy for chronic back pain and neck pain.   It is extremely common for neck and back pain treatment seekers to pop a few ibuprofen or aspirin in the hopes of finding pain relief.   In some extreme cases, while awaiting risky surgery, many people will embrace a treatment plot of NSAIDS!
Believe it or not, the pitfalls of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, as well as surgery, are staggering.   According to a recent article in Science Daily:
“The mortality rate from NSAID complications is higher than that of serious diseases like cervical cancer and AIDS. “
NSAIDs have been known as contributory to high blood pressure, stomach and intestinal bleeding, ulcers, kidney and liver problems.
In fact, a study published in the American Gastroenterological Association Journal stated that 71 percent of people who took some form of NSAID medication for 3 months, a mere ninety days, or more experienced problems with their small intestines.
These complications merely scratch the surface and are second only to the untold complications a vast majority of suffering patients experience after undergoing surgery.
You may be considering surgery if you suffer from sciatica, herniated discs, as well as a host of other back and neck problems.   Well, before you go under the knife, you should know that there may be some serious surgical side effects that your doctor isn’t telling you about.
In the United States today, over 250,000 surgeries are performed each year, and this number only accounts for lower back surgery.   Many health experts agree that most operations are either premature or unnecessary and most operations are unsuccessful.   Many people are unaware of the dangers surgery can impose.
Consider this, Dr. Arthur White, a respected surgeon, states:
“I make my living on cleaning up the messes of other surgeons who have operated prematurely with inadequate diagnosis and inadequate training. “
Failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS) is one of many issues directly attributed to surgery.   FBSS is a condition that culminates from failed spinal surgery.   Unfortunately, this problem is extremely common and something the average patient hears small about until it’s too late. FBSS sufferers generally experience pain and mobility that is really worse than it was prior to surgery.
Whether you suffer from upper, lower, or middle back pain, neck pain, sciatic nerve problems, herniated discs, neck tension, chronic pain, or just general backache, there is hope for you that does not involve expensive and painful surgery, and does not involve the use of perilous NSAID medications.
So, if you care about your overall health, and you’re seeking a safer and more effective treatment for your back and neck pain, you will be pleased to know that there are many natural healing options available to you, such as healing through nutrition, targeted neck pain back pain exercises, specific alternative treatments and lots more.
Remember, knowledge is power.   When it comes to your neck and back pain treatment, question lots of questions and don’t settle for unclear advice or undergo treatment on which you’ve been ill informed.   You only get one body; embrace your power and protect yourself!

Charles Gaudet, a former back & neck pain sufferer for over 10 years, now reveals the years of research he’s uncovered to tell the small-known secrets he’s used for powerful and successful neck pain and back pain relief.
