The sciatic nerve starts off at the base of your spine and runs through your buttocks and then down the leg ending in both feet. It is the longest and fattest nerve in the human body and there are several things that can easily place pressure on it which can lead to severe lower back pain and leg pain.

Sometimes it is caused by just sitting in an uncomfortable chair or even lying in bed. Stress can result in muscle tightness and this can lead to pressure on the sciatic nerve. When it hurts, it is called sciatica.

The pain can be quite excruciating or just a dull ache. It varies from person to person but can be debilitating in some cases. Very often but there are just a collection of various aches, numbness or tingling which can be treated.

It is best to have a doctor give you a proper diagnosis of the symptoms before you choose on a course of action. Sometimes diabetes sufferers are prone to bouts of sciatica more that others.

Your doctor can perform all sorts of tests while you sit, walk, bend and twist in different directions. Often an X-ray will be taken to look for any physical hurt.

For milder cases there is a lot of benefit from doing various exercises for sciatica. Yoga is also a excellent treatment for the condition since it can help to loosen the muscles and joints that may be causing the pressure on the nerve.

Do remember to approach any exercise or stretching very slowly and be careful not to aggravate the condition further. One of the most vital things to remember is that you should continue with the stretching techniques and exercises once the pain has subsided.

All too often people give up the exercises for sciatica and the condition is sure to return.

One of the commonest modern ailments is back pain. A larger population around the globe is suffering from it and it has assumed epidemic proportions due to the sheer number of people affected by it. But, it is not exactly a disease in the sense that it is not caused by bacteria or viruses. It is much like a self-inflicted wound.

There is a cure for low back pain, and it all starts with your commitment to doing extension exercises. If you can do a single exercise, three to five times a day, within a week you will believe you have found the cure for low back pain.

Many exercises in yoga for back pain lay stress on stretching. For those who suffer lower back pain, stretching can be very vital. Stretching of the muscles in the back of the thigh, improves the motion of the pelvis, which reduces pain and stress on the lower back. Yoga exercises including stretching also lay stress on breathing which enhances and improves blood flow.

Another back pain cure exercise you can try is to just sit on the floor with legs stretched to the front together. Then slowly bend forward and attempt to touch your feet with your fingers. If you are stretching for the first time, you may experience some difficulty because the back is stiff and muscles are tight. But your back pain treatment plot starts with strengthening your back on a daily basis.

Sitting Stretch

Sit in a sturdy chair. Slowly lean forward and touch the floor with your fingers. Maintain the stretch for about 20 continuous seconds before slowly bringing your body back to an upright sitting position. Repeat this simple stretch for about 3 to 5 times.

Lie Stretch

Find a firm floor for you to lie on your back with your knees bent. Use your arms to pull both of your legs up close to your chest. Hold the stretched position for about 10 seconds before you slowly release the stretch and bring your legs back to its original position. Repeat this stretch for about 3 times.

What these simple stretching exercises do is to loosen you up and restore your posture, which is a much better way to relief your lower back pain than to drown a few painkiller tablets down your throat. Doing a few sets of these exercises can nearly instantly get rid of the pain in your lower back, and get you back on your feet and out and about with your loved ones.
