I have a herniated disk in my lower back and I know elevating my knees while laying down on my back helps. Ice helps spasms and heat applied right after helps with the pain.
When not in too much pain getting exercise and strengthening the core body muscles really helps keep pain at bay.

try to take heat therapy . avoid bending activities ..mostly avoid bending and lifting weights , whenever ur sitting take proper back support ..u can palce a pillow for support . when u r sleeping take 2 pillows under ur thighs so that ur spine remains straight , if u r sleeping on one side take pillow between ur legs and the leg on top shud be bended , if u can, try to sleep on ur stomach . medications just give u temporary relief ..really look what activities aggerevate ur pain try to avoid those ones . mostly people get back pains due to excess of driving and bending activities. if u want to pick up anything bend from ur knees and pickup avoid bending from back . try this . if still pain persist, physical therapy can help u modalities like I F T can be used to relieve ur pain as well as back exercises . hope this helps u .

do some abdominal workouts. Strengthening the abs will help hold you straighter and wont place as much pressure on your back.
